Global Connections

Graduating Year 12 students at Sophie’s Farm,
the Philippines

Sacré Cœur has a commitment to providing students with enriching Australian and global experiences. Through a range of programs, students engage and become global citizens in a community that extends beyond our school gates.

Our commitment to reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people provides a program of curricular and co-curricular opportunities enriching our students’ respect and value for the richness and diversity of our First Peoples.

The students also have the privilege of engaging with a wider Australian, New Zealand and international community both through cultural immersion tours, and our global network of 150 Sacred Heart schools and our sister community – Sophie’s Farm in the Philippines.

Communication Immersion (Year 5 and 6)

Students enjoy exchanging letters and short videos with our sister school in France, sharing stories about themselves, their schools and their everyday life, in both French and English. This builds on their knowledge of the French language and develops letter writing skills.

Communication Immersion (Year 8)

Year 8 Japanese students enjoy exchanging letters and holding virtual collaborative class sessions with our sister school in Japan. Using the Japanese language they have learnt, they share stories about themselves, their schools and their everyday life. This builds on their knowledge of the Japanese language and develops their Hiragana skills.

Virtual Collaboration (Year 9)

Our Virtual Collaboration Program, with our sister schools across Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Taiwan, allows Year 9 students to develop the ability to tackle the complex, and at times unknown. world of today and the future, whilst strengthening their dialogue and communication skills.

Handful of Sand (Year 10)

Handful of Sand is a Year 10 Humanities project investigating social injustices and inequalities currently facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Students choose their own area of investigation, and using design thinking principles, are called to be agents of change by creating a Plan of Action – a detailed pitch on how this problem should be resolved.  The project aims to build leadership skills, increase literacy on global issues through immersion in other cultures and developing social awareness. 

Red Earth Indigenous Immersion (Year 9 and 10)

Together with Red Earth and building on their Humanities program, our Year 10 and 11 students have the opportunity to travel to Cape York to connect and learn from the custodians of the oldest surviving culture in the world. They learn from Elders and Traditional Owners on the land where they stay, walking side-by-side with Traditional Owners to better understand and appreciate Aboriginal culture.

Local, interstate and overseas cultural immersions

Senior School students also have opportunities to travel within Australia, and internationally with our network of sister schools in the United States, New Zealand, Japan, Canada and Europe through our student immersion program.

Graduating Year 12 students are also invited to undertake a three-week immersion program at the Sacred Heart Sophie’s Farm in the Philippines. The students support their work in providing food and work for the local community, and help to distribute the funds raised by the School during the year.

Senior School students are also offered international language and cultural tours to United States, Japan and India, amongst other countries.
